Puer Kim – Pearls (Kubatko Remix)

I like remix competitions and when I saw there was one of a Korean musician I knew I had to try it. The competition is actually finishing tomorrow and the results will be cominng in a few days after that. However I do not feel like I stand much change in there. If you listen to the whole playlist of the remixes you realize how many great musicians there are.

In my remix I tried to combine a bit of all the worlds. Keep some of the original track while bringing something new and surprising. I tried to keep the r’n’b vibe in the beginning while moving into some dancefloor vibe in the other half.

I hope you like my remix at least a little bit.

If you would like to know more about Puer Kim, head down to her website.

New Zealand music picks after spending there almost 3 years

After spending almost 3 years in New Zealand I discovered quite a few artists that I really like. Let this list be a bit of an sample on the New Zealand music scene. I am sure you will like at least some of these. Please note that I intentionally skip artists like Lorde or Shapeshifters as everyone knows them 🙂

  • Lukas Jury – quite an amazing guitarists with some fresh ideas, saw him on Queen Street in Auckland.
  • @Peace – hip hop group that stands out with their lightweight music.
  • Dog, Sheep and Wolf – alternative folk sounding artist that is super talented. You’ll hear.
  • The Eversons – probably my favourite. Don’t know if you will fall in love with them without seeing them live but hopefully yes. Fun, rock songs with funny lyrics.
  • Lips – probably first New Zealand artist that caught my attention when I saw her on TV.
  • Bulletproof – a bit forgotten drum and bass producer that does variety of music these days. His most recent stuff sounds really good. SOUNDCLOUD
  • RosaDub – a bit of a fortunate find. A bit of R’n’b, a bit of chill out / dub combination.

New Zealand has some amazing artists that will probably be an inspiration for many more to come. In comparison to our Czech Republic they seem to be a bit more young and their music feels just a bit more lightweight – it’s probably the sea, the sun and the mountains.

Fuck Off This Is My World

“Fuck Off This Is My World” is a name of an mini album that I made 10 years ago. At that time I burnt a few CD-Rs and was giving it away to anyone who wanted it. A few days ago I found a copy of it and I actually enjoyed sounds of some songs, in addition to it there was a remix made by a quite well known producer called Naibu (never released).
I scanned the CD, ripped the content and carefully transported everything to my computer like it was 10 years ago. You can now get it for free on bandcamp (unless you want to donate something).
Give it a shot, if you feel like it.

Why I love Bandcamp

I simply love Bandcamp for all what it brings to the music “industry”. They started simple, they are keeping it simple but they also continuously bring new features.

A few things that matter to me the most:

  • Easy to set-up an account for an artist.
  • Easy to upload songs/content for an artist.
  • Bandcamp takes only 15% from anything that you sell in there. Which, if you think about it, is quite a small amount considering all the support they give you.
  • As an artist you can sell pretty much anything (merchandise, CDs, digital). Everything is nicely done and orders are easily trackable.
  • Stats are easy to understand and viewable.
  • Clean design.
  • You feel like they care about the artists. For example every artist can select three other albums on Bandcamp and so when someone buys their album on the download screen they will see album that the artist is recommending. Really cool little feature.
  • You don’t have to register to buy music.
  • If you are registered user anytime you buy something you get it added to your nicely done collection.

Put all into context – on Bandcamp I would get 131.40 / 5906 = 0,02 USD/Play.

How much do I earn from a play on Spotify? It’s about 0,002 USD/Play. Thanks god for Bandcamp 🙂

Which is quite nice, again I don’t do it for the money but the fact that I earned 131,40 USD in two months will help me cover some of the cost that I spent on Aucklandia.

If we don’t count my time that I spent on the album the total cost of the Aucklandia album was:

80 USD – Distribution

327 USD – Mastering (USD = around 22 CZK)

297 USD – 105 CD Albums

total of 704 USD

after taking 131,40 USD that I earned – it’s just 572,6 USD to get to 0 cost.

Quite cool.

New Album “Aucklandia” Out Now!

Finally! My fourth album is finished and out now on Bandcamp (soon on other stores). I am extremely happy about this as this has been the hardest album making so far. I hope that all the work was worth it.

This album is a process of over two years long time period. All of the songs were composed in Auckland, New Zealand except for one called “Gold and Fur” that I composed when I was back in Czech for one month.

I feel humbled that I could have a few amazing guests featuring on my album.

Markéta Foukalová

marketa

from her band Lanugo. She already did one song on Krasohled and I am very happy that she could have done a three more songs with me. Please enjoy her voice in “Kudy dál”, “Za Tmou” and “Kahu”.

Tomáš Belko

tomas

Tomáš wrote great lyrics for “Kudy dál” and supported me once again. Thank you!

Ohheejung

ohheejung

when I bought her album off Bandcamp I had no idea that this would become a super-pleasant collaboration that brought a song “Don’t Die” that I consider one of my best songs so far. Please have listen to two more songs “Storm” and “Her Letter” that feature her beautiful voice.

Jo Joonghyun

jo

a friend of Ohheejung that made guitar parts for “Don’t Die” and “Jo”. I don’t know much about Jo besides his guitar hobby and that he really loves his cat.

Olga Königová

olga

from her band Ille sang on “Za Hlavou” which for me resulted in another favourite from the album. I feel lucky having the opportunity to connect with an artist like herself.

Mastering:

Tomáš Kahl

tomas

Tomáš is my man that prettyfies any song I give him. His mastering skills gave the album very full and strong sound.

Thanks to all the artists that are on my album or were involved in any part of the process.

It would make me happy seeing people sharing my music with their friends. Please feel free to listen to “Aucklandia” album as much as you like or give it to your friends. If you buy the album it is going to make me even happier.

If you like my music please get in touch, give me feedback or a poke.
